Upon arrival into Austin Texas I had to hit a couple of signature recommendations that I have been given and one of them was by far salt lick barbecue house was Ironworks barbecue in downtown.
I saw a salt lick barbecue instantly at the airport along with hundreds of specialty restaurants locally born and in this beautiful airport so I went directly to salt lick BBQ and ordered a three meat and sides fresh cut dish it was on.
I do not eat me that often it's probably 20% or less of my diet and I love barbecue.
I love the taste of many foods, ice cream towers!
however today , it's Tri tip, pork ribs and cut full sausage smokehouse!
Here is the scoop , the heavy ;
- their sauces incredible, it was already put on the ribs and on the Tri tip , omg lick , yes.
The meat smoked with the sauce / ingredients was butter ,
you know that feeling when you bite into a beef or pork rib, tender falls , butter consistency, yeah boy!
Pork sausage was excellent, along with Big baked beans and potato salad with zest.
We put a 5 on Salt Lick barbecue, and compared this to our top LA meat bbq joints, it was an easy , boo yaa!
I'm traveling to iron works bbq tomorw austin ! -

Tl;dr: Great bbq in an airport?! You better believe it.
Salt Lick BBQ in the Austin airport hands-down beat out my in-restaurant experience at Black's BBQ (near UT Austin).
+FOOD+
---Pork ribs (5 STARS): The meat was tender and that bbq sauce was heavenly. These ribs hit the right combination of fat, meat, and smoke. Just wow.
---Beef brisket (4 stars): The brisket was so, so tender!! How?! The flavor of the brisket was not as meaty or memorable as the pork ribs, but still some great meat.
---Sides (3.5 stars): The potato salad is slightly above average good, and the beans are solid. The bread was a little disappointing-- I would have preferred a plain piece of soft white bread instead of the roll. The coleslaw was average... not creamy with more of a vinegar taste.

Food took maybe 10-15 minutes to come out? Just fyi in case you're trying to make a tight connection!
I hope I get to fly through the Austin airport again sometime soon, so I can have Salt Lick bbq!

It was ok. They were friendly, the sausage and sliced brisket was pretty good, the mustard flavored bbq sauce was yummy... the employees were alright....
The parts I didn't like were that everything was ridiculously expensive, like over $20 for a 3 meat bbq plate. I guess that's to be expected?? I don't know. The turkey was extremely dry.
I'd always heard such great things about the salt lick I was excited to try it... but it was nothing to write home about. Honestly I've had much better bbq... at lots of different places. If I came to the airport again I'd probably get something else, or possibly try their chopped brisket. -

Decided to try this place out while my flight was delayed. Not to shabby for being in an airport. Everything looked really good! I ended up getting the sausage sandwich with beans and a soft drink. The sausage was super moist and had an amazing snap to the casing! The bread was super soft as well. Would definitely recommend coming here! The food also comes out pretty fast

Oh the joy of airport food in the morning, what is better than that?
Queue my first and last visit sadly to The Salt Lick BBQ chain. They serve what one would expect from a airport BBQ restaurant in the whee hours (Eggs, biscuit, sausage, et cetera). Most of the food seemed to be cooked from the night before outside of the obvious eggs and biscuits, but they had a huge vat of cold sausages they were warming up. With that seen, I had expected not the finest dining experience, but to be honest, this was a quick eat and go, so I was fine with it. The price point was great, $8.99 for a platter which could fill anyone up quite honestly. When it comes to the flavor, lets just say the food never made it to "flavor town", most items were quite bland, but the sausage had a decent taste to it. As for the restaurant itself, its a pretty decent size depending on which one you visit, the one I had visited had many booths to occupy with a decent bar. On a side note about the bar, it looks like they have plenty of local wine and beer to choose from, which is a plus for those looking for alcohol prior to boarding.
Would I bad mouth The Salt Lick BBQ, heck no as I understand their official location outside of Austin lives up to the hype of true Austin BBQ. I think the airport location just does not have all the tools to match the experience of their home base at least in a breakfast scene.
